
2016-12-04 – 100th Birthday Celebration
This weekend the 5th Dartford Scout Group celebrated its Centenary – 100 years of continuous Scouting, where not even war could stop us….
Many thanks to Lyn Medcalf for arranging and coordinating the celebratory dinner at Hesketh Park pavilion, which was attended by Gareth Johnston MP & the Deputy Mayor of Dartford, leaders past and present, supporters and former Scouts from throughout our history. It was a really good evening and a great opportunity to share memories and stories. We enjoyed a fabulous Hog-Roast supper and a great live band.
2016-10-27 – Beavers Halloween Party
5th Dartford Beavers Halloween Party
Thursday 27th October 2016 was the date for this years annual Halloween Party, but this year we invited all parents/carers to stay and join in the fun.
2016-11-13 – Remembrance
As in 5th Dartford Scouts usual tradition, those who could participated in Dartford Town remembrance service held on Sunday 13th November with 46 Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and 12 Leaders showing their respect at the war memorial, then parading with the armed services and other civil associations saluting Viscount De L’Isle MBE, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Kent, The Worshipful Mayor of Dartford John Burrell and MP Gareth Johnson.
2016-10-15 – Philpott Nature
Philpott Colony visited the Bluewater Nature Trail on Saturday 15th October 2016
Thirteen Beavers from Philpott Colony met outside Pizza Express at 10am on Saturday 15th October. After being given a map and questionnaire we set off following the big green paw prints leading us to the beginning of the Nature Trail. At various points around the lakes were sign posts of Sidney
Summer 16 – Broadstone Warren
This year 5th Dartford Explorers and Scouts from the their three troops (Earley, Burne & Medcalf) camped as a group at Broadstone Warren going back to basics, focusing on bushcraft and scouting skills.
2016-07-10 – Leigh Pack Spuds
Back in March each six from the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Leigh Cub Pack planted potato seeds, which we grew and tended outside the hall and last week we dug them up and had a weigh in with a total of over 5kg (10lbs.)
2016-07-07 – Philpotts learn Cats
Philpott Colony learn about Cats
Louisa Beyer from Cats Protection visited Philpott Colony on Thursday 7th July 2016 and gave the Beavers a very interesting talk about looking after cats and their behaviour. The talk involved big pictures and interaction with the boys. Some very unusual questions were put forward by the boys at the end including “Do cats and dogs have DNA like humans do”
2016-06-15 – Tesco’s Farm to Fork
On Wednesday 15th June, Helen from Tesco’s visited Phillips pack & introduced the cubs to feel, smell & taste different fruits, cheeses & breads.
Helen asked the cubs to write down words to describe the food they tasted.
The final activity was to feel & smell a sprat fish.
All the cubs were given a goody bag to take home with them.
2016-06-17 – Beaver Sleepover
On Friday 17th June 2016 Edwards Beavers went on their first sleepover at Scout House.
We arrived at 6pm and set up our beds, we were then ready to start tackling activities to help us gain our Outdoor Challenge Badge.
