If you attended our AGM last month you will recall Leigh Pack leader John selling sealed envelopes for the world cup sweepstakes at only £10 each. 22 of the 32 secret envelopes were sold and the the one containing the eventual winners “Spain” was amongst the 10 which were unsold. The Second place winner, Mr Paul Mills, who drew Holland has generously donated his £60 winnings back to the group, which means that the 5th Dartford Scout Group will benefit from the entire £220 prize fund.
Many thanks to Paul and a big thanks to everyone who took part in this sweep stake, which has raised valuable funds for the group.
Hundreds of Beavers from all over Kent including 22 from both Philpott & Peacock Colonies descended on the Holmesdale Technical College at Snodland. A very hot day but so much to do, where to start? There was Archery, Climbing, Bouncy castles, Astrodome, Air Simulators, Reptiles, Drumming, Casualty Simulation and oh so much more. What an adventure!
Please look at the photos to see all the fun we had.
9 Cub Scouts from the Collins & Leigh Cub packs were recently presented with their Cheif Scout Silver Award from the Deputy Mayor – the highest award a Cub Scout can receive, which reflects the level of commitment from these dedicated young people to have first completed all of their challenge awards. On behalf of everyone at the 5th Dartford Scout Group – Well done and we look forward to seeing you in scouts after the summer break.
WOW, what a night we had tonight at the 5th Dartford Scout Group. Three weeks ago the 4 patrols of the Earley Scout Troop had each been given a country to research and plan an authentic meal to be cooked in a trangia. The Kestrals lead by Liam prepared Spanish Paella, Dom’s Eagles drew Italy and so it had to be Spaghetti Bolognese; Anthony and the Falcon’s went with Hungarian Meatballs and Phil’s Hawks went super spicey with Mexican Fajitas and hot spicey rice. Everyone took some part in the preperation and cooking and then sat down together to eat what they had made – With Explorer Scout Adam swooping down on any unclaimed food. Alas no pictures of the food being cooked, but the evening was still worthy of a place on this blog.
After everthing was tidied away, we had the pleasure of watching GSL Paul Boreham invest our newest member in to the Earley Troop’s Kestrels patrol, where he will be shown the ropes by Patrol Leader Liam.
After 5 years as a Leader’s Assistant then 10 years as the Beaver Leader of Philpott Beavers, Auntie Beaver (Wendy Hurd) completed her training and was presented with her ‘Woods’ on Thursday 8th July. After an afternoon of traditional party games and a lovely tea ‘Street Party’ style outside in the glorious sunshine Jackie Watson B.S.L. 1st Dartford presented Auntie Beaver with her ‘Woods’ in front of a hall full of Beavers past and present and all their parents. The Beavers gave her a booklet of self-portraits and a bouquet of flowers and then the G.S.L. of 1st Dartford Alan Warren presented her with the Gilwell Scarf as a Thank you for past help to their Group. A truly wonderful afternoon and a big Thank You to all who came and for the many Good Wishes & Congratulations received.
The 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Constiution was just about ready for renewal, but other than a facelift the values are still as true and important today as when they were written and therefore remain unchanged, but check out the new look on the ‘About Us’ page.
