Cub Scouts belong to the second section of the scouting family and are easily recognised by their dark green uniform.

The age range is from 8 – 10 1/2 and Cubs often link from one of our Beaver colony’s, but you can still be a Cub Scout without having first been a Beaver Scout.

There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, circus skills, arts & crafts, map reading, climbing, bouldering, hiking, JOTT, exploring, computing, collecting and many, many more. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform – See below for badge location.

Cub Scouts also get to go on trips and days out, to places like the zoo, theme parks and farms. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack, the group and even district events too. This will mean sleeping in a tent and doing loads of outdoor activities.
Once cubs aproach 10 1/2 they start to network with one of our Scout Troops and move on to the next stage in Scouting.

How do I join Cub Scouts?

If you would like to take part in the fun of Cub Scouting at 5th Dartford as a young person then please visit our Join Us page or if you would like to find out about becoming an occasional helper or leader, please visit our Contact Us page.

When should I buy my uniform?

Before buying a uniform, new Cub Scouts should visit us for a few weeks to be sure they like scouting. Once the young person, parents and Cub Scout Leader (Akela) are confident that the young person is enjoying scouting, they will be invited to become a member and invested. The young person will then be required to wear a uniform for the ceremony and thereafter. If the new cub is a linking Beaver, the Beaver uniform should be worn until invested as a Cub.

Where can I buy my uniform?

Your official Cub Scout uniform is the same wherever you buy it, but you may well find it cheaper and more convenient to purchase from the shop at Dartford district Scout House in Broomhill Rd, DA1 3HT.

The shop is usually open on Monday evenings between 19:00 and 21:00.

Alternativly, uniforms can be bought locally from TFS Schoolwear, 45 Spital Street, Dartford, DA1 2DX or John Lewis or online from the scout-and-guide-shop or indeed on ebay, where both new and preowned bargains can be had.

Where do I put my badges?

Don’t forget that your Cheif Scout bronze award, Years Service and nights away badges can be transferred to your new Cub uniform.
