Sainburys Active Kids Voucher Haul 2009

Thank you!

A big thanks to all the parents, family and friends of the 5th Dartford Scout Group who collected and donated the 2009 Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers this year.

It’s always worthwhile collecting these tokens regardless of how many or few you get as an individual because collectivly, they mount up.  In fact, this year we collected a staggering 14,495 points and Wendy, Del and the team have been beavering away (Yes, the pun was intended 😆 ) ensuring they were put to good use.

Please see below how much free equipment we have been able to add to our stores for the benefit of our members because of your efforts.

6 Mega Scoots, 20 Compasses, 4 Vango 3 Man Tents, 12 Play Balls, 6 Poly PG Balls, 1 Orienteering Pack, 1 Sports First Aid Kit, 1 Basketball Ring, 6 Basketballs, 10 Mixing Bowls, 2 Soft Ring Toss Sets, 4 Sticky Monster Mitts, 2 Mango Flasks and a whisk.

2009-10-16/18 – Bisley 2009

This weekend saw members of Earley and Burne Scout Troops attended 33rd National Scout Target Shooting competition at NSRA Bisley in Guildford. We were blessed with dry weather, which was especially welcome when setting up and breaking camp, although a little cool on Sunday morning with a crisp ground frost. This was our second visit to this national competition and many of our number shot exceptionally well and improved significantly upon the scores achieved last year.  The competition was well organised and the standard of some of the other groups shooters was exceptionally high.  Whilst it is our aim at the 5th to continue to provide a full and well rounded scouting programme, we can see that there are a number of promising marksmen in our group who given the opportunity could do very well at future competitions.  Watch out National Squad, the 5th will be back next year……………… ;O)

Please accept our apologies for the lack of focus on some of our photos, but flash photography was not permitted on the indoor ranges.

2009-10-09 – Earley Troop Night

Tonight the group were presented with the Johnston Trophy from the event which took place back in February. Gareth received the trophy and certificate on behalf of the 5th, which was presented by DSL Wayne Tomkinson. A new scout was also invested in to the Earley Troop and two linking cubs joined us for the first time from Leigh pack.

The rest of the evenings activities revolved around bouldering, climbing, abseiling and Ice climbing.

Remember we’re at Bisley next Friday evening so unless you’re going on the camp, there’s no scouts on 16th October.
