The 5th Dartford Scout Group’s fledgling Cub pack, the Phillips-Pack is growing fast, and in more ways than one!
Here six of the packs’ young people, lead by sixer Angus, proudly display the terrariums they have created for plant week.
On Sunday 16th January 2011 Dartford District held a Grand Birthday Party to celebrate 25 years of Beavers. (Although both the 5th Dartford Scout Groups’ Philpott & Peacock colonies will be celebrating 26 Years as we
were the pilot colonies in Dartford and started a year earlier).
The party was held at Fleet Estate Community Centre and 108 Beavers attended in all of which 17 were from Philpott Beavers.
Oh what fun we had!! A brilliant afternoon thanks to the entertainer called ‘Travis’ who kept all the Beavers enthralled for over two hours. They started off making party hats, then lots of dancing games, colony games of trying to get balls in buckets and the biggest Conga you’ve ever seen. We broke half way through when the children were all given a goodie bag filled with crisps, sweets, cake, drink etc. A large flag was made with every Beaver and Leader present leaving a painted silver hand print on it accompanied by their name. This is to be flown at every Beaver event throughout the year. Then a large Birthday cake with candles was brought out and after the candles were blown out every Beaver got a piece to take home.
One of the best Beaver events I have ever been to and for those who didn’t attend its a shame as you really missed out on lots of fun.

The 
5th Dartford Scouts Groups’ Philpott Beavers declared Kieron Trimmer – Longhurst as Philpott Colony ‘Beaver of the Year’ 2010 and presented him with a Teddy Bear Beaver for achieving 100% Attendance record during 2010 plus he also attended ALL District and weekend activities too.

A big thank you to all 47 scouts, young and old, who attended winter camp 2011, on representing the 5th Dartford Scout Group at Gilwell Park. On Friday afternoon 5 leaders set up camp in the pouring rain and receiving scouts from early evening. With some 2500+ campers, all the grass turned to mud quickly. With so many activities available, the scouts and explorers were straight out enjoying themselves.
Despite the quagmire, we all had a good time. There were free Fun Fair Rides and a Disco, on both evenings. There was a variety of different activities from laser quasar to segways and climbing.
The Scouts made the most of their time at Gilwell, returning to the activities on Sunnday, whilst the Leaders dropped camp.
We couldn’t have done it without the help of parents providing transport to and from the venue, so a big thank you to them and all the leaders who made the camp possible.
Looking forward to the next camp!

Thank you to all parents who helped collect 15,000 vouchers for us this year. All the items requested have now been received and are in the hall being used, by all sections.
We ordered: An Equipment Storage Trolley, A Large ‘Connect 4’ Game, 10 Compasses, Multi-Coloured Skipping Ropes, 28 Tennis Racquets, Tennis Balls, Bean Bags and stilts. The scheme starts again for 2011 in February so please help us again this year by sending the tokens in.
As another year of busy scouting at the 5th Dartford Scout Group winds up, we have time to reflect upon what we have achieved and recharge over the holidays for what we hope will be an exciting year ahead in 2011. On behalf of all the young people, assistants, instructors, leaders, executive committee and trustees, we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and productive New Year too.
Tonight the 5th Dartford Scouts Groups’ Philpott Beavers celebrated their last night before the Christmas break with a visit from ‘Clown Beaver’ and enjoyed the evening playing seasonal themed games. All Leaders and Helpers over the last year were presented with small gifts of ‘Thanks’ and the boys took home their Goodie bags of Christmas items etc made over the preceding few weeks.

Some 70+ Beavers, Cubs and Leaders descended on the Orchard Theatre to see this year’s pantomime ‘Jack and The Beanstalk’ with Bobby Davro. Oh no we didn’t – Oh yes we did! What a brilliant evening – full of fun and laughter from start to finish but best of all such well behaved boys who were a credit to the Group. Thanks to Debbie Prescott for organising the event. We look forward to next year and Peter Pan.

Tonight at the 5th Dartford Scout Groups’ last scouting night of the year, the Earley Troop declared Robert “Three Horn Bob” of the Falcons patrol as Scout of the year and presented him with Bear Grylls’ latest book on scouting skills and fieldcraft “Living Wild“, which the leaders had signed. Robert won with a total of 71 1/2 points – a clear 3 11/2 points above his nearest rival.
On behalf of all at the 5th Dartford Scout Group, we congratulate Robert on his achievement and look forward to a promising 2011 scouting for him.
