It was a fresh and muddy Saturday afternoon, but the rain held off for the annual Dartford District Cross Country race. The 5th Dartford Scout group was well represented, although a few more faces would have been nice. All the members who turned out for their race did very well and tried their best regardless of where in the field they came, with some remarking on how much they had improved on previous years. And to our prize winners a very well done indeed and thank you to the leaders and family who were there to support our young folks adventure.

At 1pm on a bright Sunday afternoon 90+ Beavers from all over Dartford District converged on Scout House and Lutonia Hall in Broomhill Road. The theme of the day was ‘The States of the U.S.A.’
11 of these Beavers were from 5th Dartford Philpott Colony and we represented the state of Kansas. Each beaver was given an outline map and as they visited each state they coloured it in on the map and took part in an activity.
These ranged from making wooden aeroplanes, Mississippi mud pies, The statue of Liberty, The flag of Oregon which has a picture of a Beaver on. Red Indian headdresses, Tin Can Alley and Cars from Michigan plus much more.
A traditional American Hot Dog & Beans washed down with a soda pop followed and finally in true Scouting style a good sing-a-long round the camp fire.
4pm came round to fast but what a great afternoon.Well Done to all the Dartford District Beaver Leaders who all worked so hard to make the day the success it was.
