2013-02-02 – Quiz Night
Well as usual, Del & Wendy’s annual 5th Dartford quiz night was a sell out success with the hall packed to capacity and everyone participating. The winning team was headed up by Burne Troop’s Tim Roscoe. We’re pleased to announce that after prizes etc there was a proffit of £297, which will be put to good use within the group.
Thankyou to everyone who attended and had a great evening and especially to Del and Wendy for hosting the event.
2012-12-20 – All Change @ Burne
Thursday 20th December 2012 will go down as an historic date in the life of the 5th and especially for the Burne Troop at it was the date that Del and Wendy stood down as the section leaders. Unbeknownst to Del, Paul had asked all the group’s leaders to attend a presentation at the end of the evening so they could be shown how their many years of effort had been recognised and appreciated. Paul presented them with a Champagne box to enjoy over Christmas and there was a great applause form all present. It was clearly an emotional time and they said:
“Well what can we say but ‘What a magnificent turn out of 5th Leaders and most of all what a surprise’ !! Thank you all so very much for making our last night so special. We certainly won’t forget it in a hurry and what a wonderful gift. We’ve never seen anything like it. It was a very emotional evening for us all.“
Of course, this is not the end for Del and Wendy, just a cutting back of duty, as they will remain in place with the Philpott Beaver Colony and Del will still be attending camps, climbing and target shooting events.
The reigns and responsibility of the Burne-Troop will now be shared between Assistant Scout leaders, Tim Roscoe, Jason Elliott and Matt Parry and the section email for contact will be burne-troop@5thdartfordscouts.org.uk
2012-12-26 – Boxing Day Football
This year’s annual Boxing Day kick about was held at the Glentworth Ex-Services Club on Lowfield Street and despite a low turnout from the Scouts and Explorers there was a good body of leaders, past and present and a few old friends too. A good game was had by all with Paul Boreham coming out as top goal scorer, although both in the wrong goal! A short social was had in the clubhouse after the game and we thank the club most sincerely for allowing us the use of their facilities and hope we will be welcome back next year. Alas no pictures for this event, but then some things are better left only to the memories of those who were there 😉
Christmas Raffle Results
After an excellent turnout selling raffle ticket for our annual Christmas hamper and other prizes at Sainsbury’s on Saturday 24 November; and from ticket sales to parents, friends and family, we had made a net profit of £1,842.83 by the time of the draw on Friday 14 December, which was over double our usual return.
The first prize winning ticket was held by Mrs Wells, a Leigh-pack parent and all other prize winners have been contacted and verified. A big thank you to everyone who purchased or helped sell tickets and a very special thank you to Maggie and Jim for the effort that goes in to this worthwhile annual event.

Banners and balloons decorated the church and we even had Stevie Wonder singing Happy Birthday to us (via C.D.) Continue reading

2012-11-15 – 20yrs Service for Tim
Thursday 15th November 2012
Burne Troop received a visit from the District Commissioner Angela Rainey who presented Tim Roscoe A.S.L. with his 20 year Service Certificate and Badge. This award was much deserved as Tim was the Groups Venture Scout Leader for many years before swapping roles and joining Burne Troop over 3 years ago. He is a highly regarded and a very much valued member of the Leadership team.
Well Done Tim and thanks for all your help.
Del.
