This year’s annual Boxing Day kick about was held at the Glentworth Ex-Services Club on Lowfield Street and despite a low turnout from the Scouts and Explorers there was a good body of leaders, past and present and a few old friends too. A good game was had by all with Paul Boreham coming out as top goal scorer, although both in the wrong goal! A short social was had in the clubhouse after the game and we thank the club most sincerely for allowing us the use of their facilities and hope we will be welcome back next year. Alas no pictures for this event, but then some things are better left only to the memories of those who were there 😉
Into the Dark for Matthew
Matthew Bauckham of the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Johnston ESU, has recorded his cover of James Blunt’s Into The Dark and released it on YouTube for all to enjoy. Matthew is accompanied on guitar by his father.
Christmas Raffle Results
After an excellent turnout selling raffle ticket for our annual Christmas hamper and other prizes at Sainsbury’s on Saturday 24 November; and from ticket sales to parents, friends and family, we had made a net profit of £1,842.83 by the time of the draw on Friday 14 December, which was over double our usual return.
The first prize winning ticket was held by Mrs Wells, a Leigh-pack parent and all other prize winners have been contacted and verified. A big thank you to everyone who purchased or helped sell tickets and a very special thank you to Maggie and Jim for the effort that goes in to this worthwhile annual event.

2012-12-06 – Philpott Carol Singing
At 6pm on Thursday 6th December, the Philpott Colony joined in with
other Beavers and Cubs from Dartford District to sing Carols to the visitors in the foyer of Darent Valley Hospital. It was a very cold night and we were all very glad to be inside. We donned festive hats and buckets were rattled with the monies being raised for the Lollipop Appeal for the children’s dept of the Hospital.
Our thanks to Sue of 6th The Brent Scout Group for organising the event and for the hospitals photocopier for pumping out lots of emergency copies of the song sheets which were needed due to the turn out of children far exceeding expectations.
Merry Christmas to you all

2012-11-24 – Cubs Visit Tower Bridge
18 young folk and 6 leaders from the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Phillips and Collins Cub packs went to London by train to visit the Tower Bridge Exhibition
Tower Bridge is one of the most famous of London’s iconic landmarks and a showcase for Victorian engineering. Having taken 8 years to build, with a workforce of 432 labourers, the bridge, which is built from Cornish granite, Portland stone and 11,000 tons of steel, finally opened for public use on 30th June 1894, providing a much needed eastern gateway between the busy East End and the South East.
After the exhibition, our young folk made their way back to our Scout hall and enjoyed a sausage and chip supper, followed by games, a film and a sleepover.
A great time was had by all.

Thursday 15th November 2012
Burne Troop received a visit from the District Commissioner Angela Rainey who presented Tim Roscoe A.S.L. with his 20 year Service Certificate and Badge. This award was much deserved as Tim was the Groups Venture Scout Leader for many years before swapping roles and joining Burne Troop over 3 years ago. He is a highly regarded and a very much valued member of the Leadership team.
Well Done Tim and thanks for all your help.
Del.
