2013-03-09 – District X Country

cross countryIt was a fresh and muddy Saturday afternoon, but the rain held off for the annual Dartford District Cross Country race.  The 5th Dartford Scout group was well represented, although a few more faces would have been nice.  All the members who turned out for their race did very well and tried their best regardless of where in the field they came, with some remarking on how much they had improved on previous years.  And to our prize winners a very well done indeed and thank you to the leaders and family who were there to support our young folks adventure.

Below is a table of our achievements and some photo’s too.xc2013a

2013-03-03 – Beaver’s USA Day

usaAt 1pm on a bright Sunday afternoon 90+ Beavers from all over Dartford District converged on Scout House and Lutonia Hall in Broomhill Road. The theme of the day was ‘The States of the U.S.A.’

11 of these Beavers were from 5th Dartford Philpott Colony and we represented the state of Kansas. Each beaver was given an outline map and as they visited each state they coloured it in on the map and took part in an activity. jetThese ranged from making wooden aeroplanes, Mississippi mud pies, The statue of Liberty, The flag of Oregon which has a picture of a Beaver on. Red Indian headdresses, Tin Can Alley and Cars from Michigan plus much more. sunflowers

A traditional American Hot Dog & Beans washed down with a soda pop followed and finally in true Scouting style a good sing-a-long round the camp fire.

4pm came round to fast but what a great afternoon.Well Done to all the Dartford District Beaver Leaders who all worked so hard to make the day the success it was.

2013-01-18 – Peacock Snowman

As it was cold and snowing outside we got the beavers to create an indoor snowman using A3 sheets of paper, a black bin bag for a hat, cones and two plastic balls for eyes, stilts for the buttons, red counters for the mouth and a scarf for the scarf. Also, seeing as there were only four beavers they were put in charge for the day. They got to choose which games to play and ran them with all 7 attending leaders joining in. They were also put in charge of the horseshoe, leading the opening and closing songs.

2013-02-24 – Dartford Masonic Craft Fair

masonsToday a fair number of our young members and leaders attended the Dartford Masonic Centre’s craft fair to assist with admissions and the lucky dip. As usual there were some fine vintage cars on display, crafts, gifts, chickens and eggs and welcome refreshments, which helped with the bitter chill. Always a worthwhile event for us to attend as we receive a share of the door towards our new hall fund and on this occasion, we recieved a cheque for £375.00!  Additionally, the attending young folk can also get credit towards their Community Challenge and Kent Scout Volunteer Award.

2013-01-17 – Philpott Beavers Visit Dartford Museum

beaverOn a very cold Thursday afternoon at 4pm Philpott Colony donned hats gloves and scarves and walked down to Dartford Museum. Their exhibition entitled ‘Just add Imagination’ coincided with the Beavers working on their Imagination Activity Badge. Dr Mike Still welcomed us with open arms and let the Beavers look at all the displays plus ‘have a go’ at making models out of ‘K’nex‘. All 19 Beavers had a very enjoyable time as you can see from the photos and listening to their conversations on the dark cold walk back to the Scout Hall. On return a quick drink and a game soon warmed them up again.

2013-02-02 – Quiz Night

Well as usual, Del & Wendy’s annual 5th Dartford quiz night was a sell out success with the hall packed to capacity and everyone participating.  The winning team was headed up by Burne Troop’s Tim Roscoe. We’re pleased to announce that after prizes etc there was a proffit of £297, which will be put to good use within the group. QUIZ (Medium)Thankyou to everyone who attended and had a great evening and especially to Del and Wendy for hosting the event.
