Tonight the Earley troop saw 4 new members invested; and whilst it’s always special, tonight’s was of particular importance because it was the first occasion that girls have been invested in to the troop. We welcome Lauren, Harriet, Taju and Liam to the troop.

2013-04-26 – Visitors from Gravelines
Tonight, the Earley-troop had the opportunity to make a change to our scheduled programme to welcome our friends Alain Letreux, Natacha Sacrias, other leaders and the Scouts of the Fishermen of Iceland Scout Group, from Gravelines, France, who were staying at Scout House for the weekend. Our visitors joined in games, where both teams were of mixed nationality, with one team wearing our red scarves and another in the blue and white
. It was a great evening, which was rounded off with our overseas friends singing some of their songs and it certainly ticked some boxes for our Global Challenge too. We look forward to seeing them when we visit Gravelines for our Summer Camp in July.

2013-04-21 – St George’s Parade
Today, the 5th Dartford Scout Group paraded proudly to Dartford Central park to meet up with other Scouting and Guiding groups in the district to celebrate St Georges day in glorious sunshine.
Well done to all the young members who made the effort to turn out so smartly and to all the friends and family who came to line the parade and cheer us on.
2013-04-27 – Canoe Done it?
Another success for the 5th Dartford Players with their non-violent ‘Canoe Done It?” mystery, which was well attended as usual. Cast member Darren was the culprit on this occasion having sabotaged the canoe race for financial gain! However, he was rumbled and the only one to gain on the night was our New Hall Fund as the evening raised £469.24.
Thank you to everyone who supported this evening and to the cast and catering team for making it such an enjoyable evening. Continue reading

2013-03-27 – Phillips Volcanoes
Working on their Science badge, the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Phillips Pack Cubs have spent the last 3 weeks designing and building model volcanoes, which erupted tonight, spewing fake lava made from baking soda, vinegar and food colouring.
2013-03-29 – Easter Camp
With a chill in the air more fitting to Winter Camp, 45 members of the 5th Dartford Scout Group ventured again to Thriftwood Scout Campsite in Brentwood for our annual Easter Camp.
Blessed with dry weather and a well stocked wood pile, all the facilities were there for the Scouts and Explorers to put into practice what they had learned over the years and for our prospective Patrol Leaders to accept responsibility and take charge of their patrols.
The theme was ‘Backwoods‘, with all meals being cooked by the Scouts, on an open fire, fueled by wood they cut, split and lit themselves. Other activities included climbing, Tent-peg carving, archery, wide games and fishing, where the largest catch of the day was landed by linking Cub Scout Lauren on her Saturday visit with Harriet.
On this camp a great many lessons were learned by all, but by far the greatest realisation for the Scouts was just how difficult things can be without proper planning and teamwork, especially when the breakfast fairy hasn’t done it all before they wake up 😉

Ready for Summer Camp?
