2013-06-06 – Philpotts @ Hobbycraft

1Hobbycraft at Crayford played host to 16 Philpott Beavers at 4.30pm on a very warm Thursday afternoon.

Father’s Day gifts were the order of the day and after a warm welcome from Debbie & Kirsty and a few ‘house rules’ and a toilet run we set to work cutting and gluing various small pieces of patterned tissue paper to transform plain grey cardboard chests into colourful boxes which we later filled with chocolates.

During our visit the boys were also given a much needed drink and biscuit and after a round of applause for our most welcoming hosts the Beavers were collected by their parents at 5.50.

Our thanks to Hobbycraft, we look forward to visiting you again.

2013-05-30 – Beavers Coronation Party

60 years Coronation Party

On Thursday 30th May 2013 the three 5th Dartford Beaver Colonies joined together to celebrate 60 years since Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II was crowned (albeit a few days early)

Twenty Five Beavers all dressed in red, white and blue arrived to find the hall decorated with bunting and the Leaders dressed up to suit the occasion. First item on the agenda was to decorate a crown using an abundance of different craft materials from beads and feathers to glitter and ribbon etc.

Then the games began. Bash the balloon, Musical Chairs and Pass the Parcel which included forfeits such as Sing the National Anthem, Draw a picture of the Queen and the ever popular 10 Press-ups.

On went the crowns and we were all seated at a festive table full of yummy cakes, chocolate biscuits and a big cup of fizzy pop all colour co-ordinated of course.

Whilst eating the Beavers were shown copies of original newspapers from the day and also the Coronation mugs and plates that were given to all children at the time. Memorabilia of some of our older Leaders present at the party.

Another game of Musical Bumps to burn up all the calories and it was time to go home.

Before they left each Beaver was presented with a commemorative key ring, Union Jack sweets and a lollipop.

Congratulations Your Majesty, Long May You Reign

2013-05-11 – JOTT

Jamboree On The Trail 2013

jottThe 5th Dartford Scout Group were well represented at this years JOTT (a walk along the Darenth Valley path) with walkers joining in at various places en route. Leaders, Explorers and Scouts started at Sevenoaks Station, Cubs at Farningham and a mass of Beavers and their families from Dartford Park.

The weather was kind to the morning walkers, unfortunately as we set off from Dartford Park the heavens opened but that didn’t deter our spirits.

We all made it safely although rather muddy and damp to Sutton-at-Hone Football Club where we were greeted by much needed refreshments and given a badge to prove we took part.

Over 700 people walked this year (and a few dogs).

Our Thanks go to the organising team for a job well done.

2013-05-05 – Disney Bag Packing

disney (Small)Today, many of the cubs and beavers who are going on the Disney 2014 trip, attended a bag packing session at Dartford Sainsbury’s to help raise funds for the trip. Our young adventurers, accompanied by sainsbury-voucher2012a parent, did one of two 2hr sessions and we’re pleased to advise that the bucket count for today was £547.15.  We were also able to collect 625 Active Kids vouchers (running total now 9600) with customers realising that Scouts can benefit from them too.

Well done to all the young folk and parents who were able to attend today’s event.

2013-04-27 – Canoe Done it?

mysteryAnother success for the 5th Dartford Players with their non-violent ‘Canoe Done It?” mystery, which was well attended as usual.  Cast member Darren was the culprit on this occasion having sabotaged the canoe race for financial gain! However, he was rumbled and the only one to gain on the night was our New Hall Fund as the evening raised £469.24

Thank you to everyone who supported this evening and to the cast and catering team for making it such an enjoyable evening. Continue reading

2013-03-08 – Peacocks @ Hobbycraft

creativeWorking towards their Creative Challenge, 17 members of the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Peacock Beaver colony visited Hobbycraft in Crayford where the youngsters made Mothers day gift boxes, which they had to cover in glue and stick different coloured tissue paper all over them.

The Leaders then put a couple of chocolates inside and the present was ready for Mothers day.

While they were there they had drink and biscuit all supplied by Hobby Craft and it was a most enjoyable evening made even more so as  we were complimented on the Beavers good behavior.
