2011-02-19 – Quiz Night

Leaders and Parents New & Old put their brains and taste buds to the test for an evening of fun at the annual 5th Dartford Scout Group’s quiz night.  They decyphered codes, had to recognize famous faces, test their spelling ability, taste the flavours in various fruit juices and remember music from the past. A profit of £143 went to Group funds and the triumphant team were presented with bottles of Bucks Fizz & Boxes of Chocolates.

Watch this space for the date of the next one.

2011-02-11 – Earley Troop @ Pirates Cove

Tonight, the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Earley Troop were offered the opportunity to tackle the high ropes at Pirate Cove, Bluewater (Formally Tree jumpers) for free –  Together with a reduced rate crazy golf too.

21 of our number turned out to test the course, which was set in a very clean and tidy surroundings. Everyone had a great time and I’m sure our lads have told all their non scouting friends what fun climbing is.

Thanks to Pirate Cove and Kent Scouts for this opportunity.

2011-02-05 – Chief Scout Gold Award

Two members of the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Earley Troop, accompanied by ASL Keith Furlong and their families, attended a Chief Scout’s Gold Award presentation ceremony to acknowledge and honour the achievements of scouts receiving this award in the last 6 months.  The ceremony, which took place at Holy Trinity Church, Margate, was presided over by Rosie Shepherd – Gilwell’s Programme & Development Advisor for 11-18yr olds together with County Commissioner, Kelvin Holford.  Of the 80 Kent Scouts at the ceremony, 25 of them were from Dartford –  a staggering 32%, which stands testament to the quality and scouting available in our district.

Liam and Philip have been excellent scouts and demonstrate the quality of scouting at the 5th.  Both lads have graciously taken a step back as patrol leaders (PL’s) to assist with the training of new PL’s over the next few weeks, whilst they themselves link with the Johnston Explorers as they move on to the next leg of scouting.

From all at the Earley Troop – Good luck lads.

2011-02-12 – District Five-a-Side

Today the 5th Dartford Scout Group was represented at the Dartford district Scout 5-a-side football competition by teams from both the Earley and Burne troops.  There were 9 teams in all, each with up to seven players including subs.  An excellent days sport was had by all and we saw some great football form both the 5th’s teams, but in the semi finals of the Plate, the Earley troop knocked out Burne in what was a thrilling match and then went on to win in the final, coming in 3rd overall.

A special thanks to Earley team coach Phil Hannah for keeping the team fresh, balanced and in the correct positions to bring home this win.

Webb Ivory Fundraising – Christmas 2010

I would like to say a very big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who placed an order.  We made a profit this year of £266.30, which will be invested in to the 5th Dartford Scout Group.

The winners of the ‘Biggest order’ prizes for each section were: Philpott Beavers – Bailey N, Peacock Beavers – Joshua L, Collins Pack – James B, Leigh Pack – Nathaniel H, Burne Troop – Sean A and Johnston Explorers – Tom F.

After 15 years I am sad to say this will be the last year of fund raising in this way. I would like to Congratulate several parents who year after year send in big orders and thank them enormously for their support, which has kept it going this long.  They are Mrs Pay, Mrs Fenning, Mrs Seymour and Mrs Zimmerman.
