2011-03-19 – District Cross Country Race
Today, members from all sections of the 5th Dartford Scout Group turned out to compete in the Annual District Cross Country race at Canada Heights, on what has probably been the most glorious, sunny day of the year thus far.
Our competeing boys and girls put in a 100% effort today, many of whom have never run in a cross-country event before. They should all take a bow and be commended on their achievement regardless of the final results, which we’ve listed below.
Team events:
6-7yrs – Beavers – 5th Peacock-colony – 1st place.
7-8yrs – Beavers – 5th Phillpot-colony – 3rd place.
8-9yrs – Cubs – 5th Leigh-pack – 3rd place.
9-10yrs – Cubs – 5th Collins-pack – 1st place.
Individual events:
6-7yrs – Beavers – Harry – 5th Peacock-colony – 2nd place.
6-7yrs – Beavers – Jack – 5th Phillpot-colony – 4th place.
7-8yrs – Beavers – Oscar – 5th Phillpot-colony – 3rd place.
9-10yrs – Cubs – Ted (1st), Jack (2nd), Sean (3rd)
Under 12yrs – Scouts – James – 3rd place.
A big thank you to all the members and family who took the time to turn out and support the 5th today.
ShelterBox Update
As you’ll no doubt recall, the 5th Dartford Scout Group worked hard in 2010 to raise funds for ShelterBox. We are now delighted to let you know that our donation of £708.62 has enabled 2 boxes to be allocated and we can even trace their location here, wherever in the world they are deployed.
2011-03-03 – R.N.L.I visit Philpott Beavers
To help with the water safety part of their Safety Badge, Terry a volunteer with the R.N.L.I. visited the 5th Dartford Scout Group’s Philpott Beavers on their colony night. He showed them a short but very informative film, taught them the differences in the colours of the flags flown on beaches and their meanings and what to do in an emergency. Bearded Beaver was asked to put on a set of the crews protective clothing (much to his delight) and all the boys were given Lifeboat stickers.
As a ‘Thank you’ the Beavers all brought some 10p’s to make a silver river across the hall, which, when counted up at the end totaled £36.60 and this was presented to Terry to pass on, on our behalf to the R.N.L.I.
2011-02-19 – Quiz Night
Leaders and Parents New & Old put their brains and taste buds to the test for an evening of fun at the annual 5th Dartford Scout Group’s quiz night. They decyphered codes, had to recognize famous faces, test their spelling ability, taste the flavours in various fruit juices and remember music from the past. A profit of £143 went to Group funds and the triumphant team were presented with bottles of Bucks Fizz & Boxes of Chocolates.

2011-02-12 – Ashley Hurd 10yrs Service
Today was a proud day for the 5th Dartford Scout Group, as the Burne Troop’s own Ashley Hurd was presented with his 10 year service award and certificate by District Commissioner Angela Rainey, in recognition of his continued service to scouting. Contratulations from everyone at the group.
We’re collecting 2011 Active Kids Vouchers
It’s that time again already folks – The 2011 Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers are now being offered in your local stores and the 5th Dartford Scout Group have a collection box just inside the door at the Scouts hall. In each of the last two years we collected @ 15,000 tokens, which we were able to exchange for valuable equipment for use within every section. With your help, we’d like to reach and hopefully beat that number in 2011. Thanks in advance for your help.
Quiz Night Entry – 19th Feb 2011
The 5th Dartford Scout Group will be holding their annual quiz night on Saturday 19th February. This evening has proven exceedingly popular in past years so early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Bring your own drinks and nibbles. 19:30 for 20:00 start. Design-a-Badge Competition
The 5th Dartford Scout Group will be 95 years old in December 2011 and we would like to produce a new neckerchief badge for every member to wear to celebrate. Any member of the Group may take part in the competition.
All entries must be in by 1st March – Please hand them to your Section Leader any time before that date.
The following details must be on the badge in some form but the rest of the design is up to you:-
1) 5th Dartford Scout Group
2) 95 Years
3) 1916-2011
4) Fleur-de-Lys (centre part of the purple world badge)
No more than six different colours including edging stitching and please quote background colour.

Webb Ivory Fundraising – Christmas 2010
I would like to say a very big ‘Thank You’ to everyone who placed an order. We made a profit this year of £266.30, which will be invested in to the 5th Dartford Scout Group.
The winners of the ‘Biggest order’ prizes for each section were: Philpott Beavers – Bailey N, Peacock Beavers – Joshua L, Collins Pack – James B, Leigh Pack – Nathaniel H, Burne Troop – Sean A and Johnston Explorers – Tom F.
After 15 years I am sad to say this will be the last year of fund raising in this way. I would like to Congratulate several parents who year after year send in big orders and thank them enormously for their support, which has kept it going this long. They are Mrs Pay, Mrs Fenning, Mrs Seymour and Mrs Zimmerman.
