Camp started Saturday night when another Cub and myself was invested 'under the sea'
while we were travelling in the Le Shuttle. We had to get special permission to take
photographs in the tunnel as it sets off the fire alarms.
The sky is clear blue and the ground is like a rock, they haven't had any rain for quite a while here!
We have been sorted into patrols and we will work in these patrols for the whole of the camp.
Doing chores and earning points as the week goes by.
We hike to the local lake for a swim where they have a manmade beach. It's just like being at the sea.
We have held a 'ready steady cook' event.
Where each patrol was given money to buy their food (from the local market) after deciding their own menu.
We had to cook the food using pots and utensils we had made from foil and present it for marking, before eating it.
There was no time limit like the television programme and each patrol produced different meals but all of it was edible!
The Leaders said it was hard to decide who had won because the menus and the cooking styles were so different.
We have been to the standing stones at Arnac.
It was a bit like our Stonehenge and before that we spent half a day at the beach.
Six older scouts and the Ventures went on an over night hike,
sleeping under the stars in a bivy before making their way home in canoes.
We had lots of activities at camp, some on site, like archery,
knot tying, peg bashing, French arrows, a stretcher race, pulleys and some were off site, like cycling and orienteering.
Summer camp was finished off with a fancy dress party and quiz night.
Each scout had to make a costume and there was face painting to help complete your look. Even the Leaders took part!
At the very end of camp all the points from each activity was added together and a
wining patrol was announced, unfortunately it wasn't my patrol that won, but as I am only a young scout,
I have time to improve and next year will be an even better challenge!
All in all a most enjoyable experience, see you soon!
