\"\"<\/a>Despite poor forecasts\u00a0ahead of our AGM and Activity Day on Sunday, June 17th,\u00a0the weather was spectacular for us, all the activities were up and running ready for\u00a0the\u00a011am\u00a0start and\u00a0quite a few families arrived\u00a0early\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0the most of all\u00a0that was available. Being Father’s Day, it did not take too much encouragement to get the Dads\u00a0joining in with their kids.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dartford’s Mayor,\u00a0Ann Allen and escort Miss Kim Cooper arrived shortly after the start, visiting all the activities, meeting and speaking to the leaders\u00a0and\u00a0instructors and taking time to speak to our young members about their scouting experiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The activities were suspended for the duration of the official AGM, which included reports from\u00a0the Chair, Treasurer\u00a0and GSL\u00a0and the formal accounts were\u00a0ratified by all in attendance. Parent representatives to the Executive Committee were elected and promised that they would be made very useful during the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Minutes\u00a0of the AGM, all of the various\u00a0reports\u00a0and the financial statements will soon be\u00a0available from the download area of our website\u00a0and the financial statements and an annual report are also lodged with the Charity Commission. Our registered Charity Number is 303370 and you can search for us at\u00a0www.charity-commission.gov.uk<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ted Essex ‘Cougar’ was\u00a0elected to a unique position as the new\u00a0President of 5th Dartford Scout Group. Ted has over 40 years of service\u00a0in the Scouts, starting in Deptford in 1969,\u00a0moving to Dartford in 1981, fulfilling leadership positions in Cubs, Scouts\u00a0andVenture\u00a0Scouts\u00a0and\u00a0has\u00a0now accepted\u00a0a\u00a0Group position,\u00a0providing insight and experience to young leaders and promoting scouting to the wider community.\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The Group\u2019s Head of\u00a0Fundraising, Karen Hannah,\u00a0provided an update of the many activities that\u00a0have\u00a0taken place over the year, including the 777 Challenge and thanked Lyn Medcalf, Lesley Bauckham and the many other people who have helped with fundraising for their considerable efforts. We were delighted to welcome some guests to the event who made donations to the Group including\u00a0John, Stuart and Piers\u00a0from Dartford Freemasons\u00a0for \u00a3425,\u00a0raising their contributions to \u00a31,000 for this year\u00a0and\u00a0Rags & Av\u00a0from Amar Hall,who handed over\u00a0\u00a3296 raised\u00a0at\u00a0a recent Curry\/Disco evening.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Mayor congratulated\u00a0the young members and leaders\u00a0of the 5th Dartford\u00a0for their achievements\u00a0over the past year\u00a0and also pledged \u00a3500 for our New Hall Fund.\u00a0District Scout Leader, Wayne Tomkinson congratulated the Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers for their\u00a0commitment and involvement in Scouting\u00a0over the year and thanked the parents for\u00a0their active\u00a0support, bringing their children into the Scouting movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Activities continued through to 3pm,\u00a0with leaders making sure that everyone\u00a0who wanted to, got to take part inthe activities on offer, which included\u00a0Abseiling, Archery, Ice Climbing, Climbing, Bouldering, Rifle\/Pistol Shooting, Face Painting, Fake Wounds, Bracelet\/Necklace making, Puzzle making\u00a0and\u00a0Burgers. And thank you must also go to the helpers who provided\u00a0Tea,\u00a0Coffee, Cold Drinks,\u00a0Home-made Cakes, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts\u00a0and the ever-popular\u00a0Chocolate Fountain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Our\u00a0AGM\u00a0and Activity Day,\u00a0was\u00a0a wonderful way to celebrate Fathers Day with the whole family,\u00a0andprovided\u00a0an\u00a0insight into some of the activities that Scouting offers. The\u00a0official business of the AGM\u00a0gave the wider 5th<\/sup>\u00a0Dartford family a chance to see how the Group is being managed and was still\u00a0completed promptly within 45 minutes. \u00a0If you have any suggestions for the next AGM, please let me know.<\/span><\/p>\n
