{"id":5462,"date":"2012-06-05T23:39:34","date_gmt":"2012-06-05T22:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/?p=5462"},"modified":"2012-06-10T00:09:32","modified_gmt":"2012-06-09T23:09:32","slug":"2012-06-0105-district-jamboree-walton-firs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/?p=5462","title":{"rendered":"2012-06-01\/05 &#8211; District Jamboree &#8211; Walton Firs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/waltonfirs6634.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-5463\" title=\"waltonfirs6634\" src=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/waltonfirs6634.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"126\" height=\"113\" \/><\/a>Exhausted and full of tales of adventure is probably the best way to describe the state of the 5th Dartford Scout Group&#8217;s young members as they returned from the Dartford District Diamond Jubilee Jamboree (3DJ2) at <a title=\"Walton Firs\" href=\"http:\/\/www.waltonfirs.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Walton Firs<\/a>\u00a0Activity Centre.\u00a0 Over 700 district Scouters attended,\u00a0most of whom slept under canvas\u00a0and with 80 odd being from the mighty 5th.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some old friends were missed on this camp, but many new friends were made and old friendships rekindled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Activities, which were all run by the the leaders from within our own district, included Archery, Target Shooting, Caving, Crate Stacking, Climbing, Rafting, Kayaking, Canoeing, Backwoods skills and cooking and much, much\u00a0more.\u00a0 The camp record for crate stacking was set by one of our own Leigh-Pack cubs at 26 crates and for the third consecutive time, we retained our dominance in the cardboard canoe race with a very convincing victory in a craft designed by Paul,\u00a0fashioned by\u00a0Brett Funnell &amp; John Butler\u00a0and captained by Explorer Jack &#8220;Duracell Bunny&#8221; Hannah.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having sucessfully linked, Joseph was presented with his Chief Scout Silver Award by GSL Paul\u00a0as he left the Leigh-Pack to join the Earley-Troop as a Scout.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We can&#8217;t avoid the fact that the weather on this camp was wet and horrible, but the set-up and strike were favourable\u00a0and with sufficient leaders taking time off work to get everything ready before the young folk arrived, there were no issues or surprises.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As with all camps, the focus was on the kids, but it can&#8217;t\u00a0be done without the leadership team and none more so that those who run the kitchen and fuel the kids adventure.
