{"id":2300,"date":"2010-10-20T00:57:06","date_gmt":"2010-10-19T23:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/?p=2300"},"modified":"2010-11-16T00:12:37","modified_gmt":"2010-11-15T23:12:37","slug":"2010-10-15-nsra-bisley-nstsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/?p=2300","title":{"rendered":"2010-10-15 &#8211; 34th NSARC at NSRA Bisley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NSRA Bisley &#8211; 34th National Scout Air Rifle Championships<a href=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/nsra.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1910\" title=\"nsra\" src=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/nsra.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a> 15-17\/10\/10<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">WOW &#8211; What an experience!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">That\u2019s the only way I can start this blog\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was my first opportunity to take the lead role in a 5<sup>th<\/sup> Dartford Scout\u00a0camp, which also had representation from the 9<sup>th<\/sup> in the form of familiar faces Jessica and Becky and for the first time Henry who was joined by his father Reg.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Notwithstanding the van suffering a broken gear linkage, we arrived as scheduled and unloaded our kit in the six allocated pitches in the middle of the Sergeant\u2019s Mess field. Typically, it bucketed down as we finalised the setting up of camp, but that soon cleared and we awoke on Saturday to a mostly dry and sunny day, which if a little windy, was not too cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Target_used1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2326\" title=\"Target_used\" src=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/Target_used1-281x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>Sunday however, was a different kettle of fish, with overnight temperatures dropping well below zero, leaving ice all over the tents, which soon thawed out in the Sunday sunshine.\u00a0 The competition was, as usual, organised with military precision, with @ 800 competitors of varying ability shooting side by side in the Knockout, 6yd Rifles, 6yd pistols and Field Targets, which form the main competition within the Lord Roberts Centre.\u00a0 Many\u00a0of the older scouts and leaders also took part in the Summer Biathlon, Advanced Field Targets, Small Bore and Full Bore at\u00a0the 300 meter line on the Century Range.\u00a0 There are also other events which take place, but are in the &#8220;own gun&#8221; categories, where the standards are exceptional.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/JOTi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-2329\" title=\"JOTi\" src=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/JOTi-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"159\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To fill the spare time between details, there was also the oppertunity for the scouts to join in on JOTI and JOTA (Jamboree on the Internet\/Air) as a facility had been provided for scouts to work towards their Global Challenge.\u00a0 There was also a challenging archery range and hockey matches on the first floor which could be spectated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a most welcome visit and assessment by District Commissioner Angela Rainey, accompanied by husband Nigel, who gave the nod of appreciation to Karen\u2019s pasta sauce and the baked apple pie and custard; I can confirm that the planning, paperwork and camp setup were found to be in good order and after a brief interview Angela\u00a0granted my night\u2019s away permit \u2013 so I can do it all again on my own credentials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alas there was no furniture brought home to decorate our awards shelf this year, but the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Dartford Scout Group firmly believe in providing a full and well balanced programme, where target shooting forms only part of it,\u00a0although we fully appreciate the opportunity to stand alongside and compete against the skilled members of National Scout Air Rifle\u00a0Team who represent British scouting at international level.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I&#8217;d like to thank and acknowledge the extensive help and experience of existing N\/A permit holder Dave Monteith; the expertise of Tilley lamp guru Keith Furlong; Karen\u00a0Hannah, who cooked and served an excellent selection of balanced and nutritious food over long rolling services in order to meet all the shooters detail times.\u00a0 In fact, all leaders and parents on camp are owed my thanks for all their help in making this camp a success.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[dm]45[\/dm]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Please forward any pictures taken at the camp to <a href=\"mailto:media@5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\">media@5thdartfordscouts.org.uk<\/a> for inclusion in our galleries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">So who&#8217;s ready for Bisley 2011?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jason<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC09307.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2315\" title=\"DSC09307\" src=\"http:\/\/www.5thdartfordscouts.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/DSC09307.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"358\" \/><\/a>ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NSRA Bisley &#8211; 34th National Scout Air Rifle Championships 15-17\/10\/10 WOW &#8211; What an experience!
