Beavers Halloween Party – Thursday 26th October 2017
Our annual Halloween party for all three Beaver colonies of 5th Dartford was a great success once again. We also invited parents and siblings to dress up and join in which resulted in well over 40 spookily dressed people turning up.
Teams of Beavers and parents started the games off by Space hopping up the hall then getting do-nuts off the line with just their teeth. Next was Halloween Bingo a picture matching game for children only. Then the Halloween story game in which everyone in the room was involved. Ooh Spooky!!
After a short break for refreshments washed down with Witches Brew, everyone got back in their teams for the traditional Apple bobbing and trying to retrieve a sweet from the plate of icing sugar, strictly No Hands Allowed.
Much to the relief of all the parents a game of Musical Bumps for the 28 children only finished the evening off and all departed with a Goody bag each.
Many thanks to my team of Leaders for helping the party run so smoothly
This year family camp we celebrated our centenary of scouting at Hope Hill Campsite, Meopham. Over the bank holiday weekend we had 108 campers, plus a number of visitors through out the weekend including Wendy the second time at camp the last time being 1992, as well as the County Commissioner Dean Harding and Youth Commissioners visiting Kent Scouts taking part in the Big Night Out celebrations (https://www.kentscouts.org.uk/1181). This weekend the 5th Dartford Scout Group celebrated its Centenary – 100 years of continuous Scouting, where not even war could stop us….
Many thanks to Lyn Medcalf for arranging and coordinating the celebratory dinner at Hesketh Park pavilion, which was attended by Gareth Johnston MP & the Deputy Mayor of Dartford, leaders past and present, supporters and former Scouts from throughout our history. It was a really good evening and a great opportunity to share memories and stories. We enjoyed a fabulous Hog-Roast supper and a great live band.
Thanks to everyone for attending and joining in the fun at our AGM on Sunday, we also have several parents offer further help and assistance, which is excellent. A big thank you to the Explorers for helping to build and run the Aerial Runway.
Minutes and annual accounts will be published here soon, section reports below.
As you will recall, the 5th Dartford Scout Group were generously gifted a fantastic bespoke steel staircase by Adam Clarke of AKD Contracts Ltd. We are pleased to confirm the staircase has now been completed and brought in to use and we can hardly begin to thank Adam and his team of committed engineers for bringing this project to fruition.
In order to ensure only authorised and supervised access, we felt we had to include fencing and a lockable gate to protect the young folk in our care; once again Adam was quick to respond and upon visiting our site on Friday 20th March, he drafted plans and a quotation. It didn’t take us long to consider who best to approach to fund this additional work, and our first thought was Councillor Jeremy Kite, Leader of Dartford Borough Council, who once again generously approved the funding under the council’s Salute to Youth community plan. This went through in record time and Adam’s team have almost completed; that’s planning, funding approval and completion within a fortnight!
We will update this post as soon as it’s completed, but we felt it was so important to publicly thank Councillor Kite and AKD Contracts Ltd. on behalf of all the young people in our community who will benefit from this fabulous and safe addition to the adventurous activities the 5th Dartford Scout Group offers.
This evening the Edward Beavers raised £162.00 at their Teddy Tombola at Salisbury’s Crayford and had great fun in the process. Many thanks to the Beavers and the parents who supported us on the night. Continue reading →
A record 43 boys arrived dressed in Spooky costumes for our biggest Beaver Halloween Party ever. We even had a Dalek and Darth Vader join in the celebrations. Along with the valued help of four of our Explorers the Beavers enjoyed traditional games such as getting the Doughnuts from the string without the use of hands, picture matching, the ever popular story game Ooh Spooky! and Apple bobbing followed by getting minions out of the icing sugar once their faces were wet.
